My first bike was a Trek hybrid, which I rode for a year before buying a Motobecane road bike. I rode the road bike about a year and then bought a TerraTrike recumbent because of upper back/neck/shoulder pain while riding an upright bike. The recumbent trike solved that problem. Last year, I bought a Surley trailer to pull behind the trike for self-contained rides. Last October, several of my friends and I did the Natchez Trace self-contained – my trike and trailer worked perfectly! Last fall, I bought a Bacchetta Giro recumbent bike, hoping to recover some of the speed that I lost riding the heavier trike. I hadn’t ridden it very much because the weather here in Wichita turned pretty cold about mid-November. I didn’t get back on it till I rode it in Tucson – and crashed!! I suffered a broken pelvis and separated shoulder. I started riding the trike again about the first part of May and the bike about a week ago. I’m not totally recovered but close. My friend, Bill VanderWall, asked me to join him on the first leg of the Ride to Awareness from San Diego to Phoenix. Of course, I jumped at the chance! Am looking forward to meeting new friends and having a great ride.
